December 2nd, 1877, Louis-Paul Cailletet became the first to liquify oxygen. He went on to liquify nitrogen, hydrogen, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and acetylene.

December 18th, 1839, John William Draper took a daguerreotype of the moon, the first celestial photograph made in the US.
